WELCOME TO OKLAHOMA
Every visitor to Stillwater Regional Airport will be greeted by a postcard that's larger than life–approximately 44 times larger, to be exact.
The striking mural, "Welcome to Oklahoma," captures the essence of a giant postcard, bringing the state's bold brand colors to life. The painting draws visitors in from afar and cheerfully guides them toward the airport entrance, reflecting the heartland's renowned hospitality. The postmark features the date of Oklahoma's statehood, while a bespoke typographical design blends typefaces from esteemed foundries, incorporating undulating baselines, shading, and duotone effects to evoke the charm of vintage tourism posters.
Inspired by the late 1920s, the typography pays homage to the era when the airport first opened its doors. A vintage biplane, propelled by the state insignia, soars across the scene, symbolizing the airport's role in the region's growth and progress.
Every element of the mural is meticulously hand-painted, including a hawk making lazy circles in the sky alongside the plane, nodding to both the spirit of this great state and the avian inspiration behind humankind's desire to take flight in the first place.
Oklahoma is a place to soar, a place to belong, and a place to write home about.
