PLAZA WALLS MURAL EXPO
This crazy little hamburger and ice-cool, tall drink of pink made their debut at Plaza Walls in 2022. Select artists from around the world are invited to the Plaza District of Oklahoma City each year to participate in the rotating mural project, managed by the Oklahoma Mural Syndicate. The idea for this snacky dynamic duo sprang from my beloved late grandmother's affinity for a good burger, my childhood memories of drinking Icees from those iconic blue and red cups, and the desire to always have a little something in my art that the viewer may not catch at first glance. In this case, the somewhat hidden gems are the happy faces personifying each of the refreshments. It was important to me to incorporate bright colors, high contrast, and gooey, melty shapes, but perhaps my highest priority was to create something that was approachable to all. No matter the onlooker's age, orientation, affiliation, or previous experience with art, I wanted to paint something that could cause anyone to have a fun little thought, if only for a moment.
